SeeTickets Breach
SeeTickets just began the process of letting customers know about a major PII breach within its system last week. SeeTickets first learned of the data breach that began on June 25, 2019, in April 2021, but didn’t completely shut down the unauthorized activity until January 8, 2022, 2.5 years after the initial breach. Compromised data includes name, address, zip code, card number, expiration date, and CVV number. The total impact is unknown, but some reports indicate that at least 90,000 customers in Texas alone were affected.

All-In Pricing coming soon?
The Biden Administration and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau are calling for the elimination or reduction of “junk fees,” including fees added at the end of a ticket transaction. A similar all-in pricing requirement was introduced in NY earlier in the year, but this country-wide change will have a significant impact on live event ticketing. And while Ticketmaster’s infamous fees are often the first to come to mind, its parent company, Live Nation, was quick to praise and support the initiative.

Triller’s Metaverz
Triller has entered the metaverse by hosting the first event on October 22 on its new platform, Metaverz. The virtual event featured DJ Sam Feldt and was the first of 2,000 live music and sporting events that Triller and its subsidiaries plan to host over the next year. It also has plans to release games within Metaverz that can be played to earn digital currency that can then be used to customize avatars or buy tickets for events.

Firefly’s Lights Dim
After 10 years, Delaware’s Firefly Festival is taking a break in 2023 with a promise to return in 2024. The fest was started by Red Frog Events in 2012, became a collaboration between Red Frog and Goldenvoice in 2014, and was eventually purchased by AEG in 2018. It saw as many as 90,000 guests in 2015 but reportedly capped its 2021 attendance at 50k.

When We Were Young, take 3

Coachella ™, obvs
With no response from Afrochella organizers and just 2 months until the event, Goldenvoice has now filed a motion for a preliminary injunction to stop Afrochella from using its name. There appears to be no reaction from Afrochella.
Separately, Goldenvoice has filed a lawsuit against Coachillin Holdings, a California company that owns the Coachillin Industrial Business Park for the cannabis industry. Has anyone learned to leave the Coachella out of it?
