Today's read ... 9

Today we’re wondering… can artists mandate vaccines for road crew... And which 7 stars accounted for $1 BILLION(!) in ticket sales from 2018 to 2020? One thing we know for sure is that BOH is donating $1 to Well Dunn for each new subscriber this month. Read more about why we

Legal questionsBands and artists are requiring road crews to be vaccinated, but the request is being met with hesitancy and legal questions. Garth Brooks personally weighs in on the request.

Data to connect with fansIn addition to their current in-app concert and ticketing features, Spotify is considering using user data to help artists connect with fans at live events.

$1 billion in ticket revenueTop names in music including Sir Elton, Celine, Metallica and more announce international tours in 2021 and 2022. More shockingly, these 7 artists are worth more than $1 billion in ticket revenue from 2018 to 2020 (paywall).

50 people indoor capacity Capacity restrictions are easing or being eliminated in Iceland, France, and Switzerland. Meanwhile, Sweden is on the second stage of the government’s reopening plan with only 50 people allowed for standing indoor shows (paywall).

Accessible offline ticketing optionThere is concern from Age UK, an organization focused on supporting senior citizens’ interests, that although online ticketing services are more efficient at identity verification, they exclude older individuals. They are recommending an accessible offline option.

Customer experience and safetyAccording to a panel at the 2021 Pollstar Live conference, cashless and touchless options for ticketing and on-site purchases might be another popular step towards improving customer experience and safety at live events in the future. BOH dives more into these options here.

Liability insurance Music venues in Canada are being hit with liability insurance prices of up to 400% higher than the pre-pandemic rates.

Vaccination or negative tests140,000 people will be invited to Motorsport Tickets’ Silverstone on July 16-18 as part of the latest phase of the UK’s Events Research Programme. Vaccination or negative tests will be required.

First fully-vaccinated concert  Poland hosted its first fully-vaccinated concert with more than 10,000 fans in Warsaw. See the crowd photos from headliner DJ Boris Brejcha.

Relief packagesRelief packages: The New South Wales government is providing COVID-19 recovery grant funding to thousands of small businesses. Festivals in Ottawa are receiving $400 million of relief spread over two years.

UK awaits insurance program while vaccines and testing become unnecessary

An insurance plan for the live industry is expected to come in the near future, especially following a call for help from politicians across party lines. The Brexit minister does not believe that visa-free travel for musicians offers enough “control over immigration.” Based on the results of the Events Research Programme, COVID-19 testing requirements might cause a drop in ticket sales, as well as attendance. Finally, starting July 19, venues and nightclubs will not require proof of vaccination or negative tests upon entry.

Well Dunn: Born from Death of Emerging Industry Pro Seeks to Support Live Events Dreams for Young Students

Emily Dunn was a very passionate young person. When she chose to do something, she saw it through. In 2005, when she was just 16, she talked her mom, Deborah, into going to Bonnaroo together where she immediately fell in love with live events. Over the next year, while still in high school, Emily created her own company, Well Dunn Entertainment. She worked with AC Entertainment, Suite Treatments and others every chance she had.  After taking a gap year between high school and college to travel the world, she continued working extensively with concerts and events throughout college.

Jacque Barsotti, Well Dunn Board Member and Founder of Suite Treatments, met Emily through Emily’s father, Chris, in 2006. Emily volunteered to work with Jacque that summer, and between 2006 and 2010, they worked roughly 100 festivals together.

“Emily was quick, smart, no BS. That’s not very common to find in someone so young,” said Jacque.Read more about Emily's impact on the entertainment industry and Well Dunn, the foundation her parents and Superfly's Rick Farman created to continue her legacy.
