Not Back To Business As Usual COVID reactions around the world:With COVID-19 cases rising in some places, organizers everywhere are deciding whether to carry on or pump the brakes on reopening following varying infection rates resulting from recent shows. A test concert held in May in Paris with various testing and mask requirements showed zero COVD-19 infections caused by the event. According to organizers of Slovakia’s Pohoda on the Ground, no one tested positive throughout the entire five-day festival earlier this month (paywall). Conversely, 1000 new positive cases have been linked to Verknipt festival, an outdoor music festival in the Netherlands, despite requiring attendees to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test upon entry. Infection rates have increased significantly in the Netherlands over the past week, and lockdown measures have been reinstated, including the banning of live performances. Their festival industry has sued the government because of these restrictions. France, Portugal, and parts of Spain also look to boost mandates. Meanwhile, Scotland and Wales are planning to lift some restrictions soon. And in the US:The mayor of Orange County in Florida is recommending the use of masks indoors, and Los Angeles has reinstated an indoor mask mandate regardless of vaccination status. Health officials in New Orleans are concerned about the possible spreading that could be caused by the upcoming festival season, especially with the Delta variant. The Hollywood Bowl has offered some tips for venues to reopen safely. Organizers and fans are all hoping to get back to business soon, but there is still significant uncertainty.

Deftones has also dropped from the lineup after announcing they’ll postpone all shows until 2022.

(Online) Lorde, Lizzo, Metallica, BTS, The Lumineers, and many more will be performing this September on several different platforms across six continents at the Global Citizen Live 24-hour livestream concert seeking to combat poverty and the negative effects of COVID-19.
