Will we be taking rocket ships to festivals in the future? Plus, “Britain’s Fyre Fest” leaves fans out in the mud, and new vaccination requirements are popping up everyday. 

Fans spent around $111 each to stand in the rainThe UK’s Metrofest, an R&B and hip-hop festival held on August 8, is being called “Britain’s Fyre Festival.” Fans spent around $111 each to stand in the rain for hours, just for headliners Mya, Eve, Blackstreet and Tony Touch to pull out of their performances.

Varying Degrees of Vaccine RequirementsAEG just announced that starting October 1, they will be requiring proof of vaccination for everyone at their festivals and venues. A negative test will not be accepted. Lollapalooza not a super-spreader, but outbreak at Watershed led Live Nation to switch course. Previously allowing artists to decide, Live Nation updated their policy and, starting October 4, will now require all fans, artists, and crews to have either proof of vaccination or a negative test. Both companies, however, will require full-time staff in the US to be fully vaccinated when they return to work (paywall). Though not free from infections, health officials in Chicago have found ‘no evidence’ that Lollapalooza was a super spreader event, providing support for the effectiveness of proof of vaccine or negative test requirement. 

More events and artists have hopped on the bandwagon of requiring either a vaccine or a negative test including…   Milwaukee’s Summerfest, slated for several weekends next month.  Bonnaroo, which is taking place over Labor Day weekend. They will also require masks in indoor spaces. Mempho Music Festival, set for October 1-3. Louisville’s Louder Than Life, set for September 23-26. Treefort Music Fest in Boise. Danny Wimmer Presents festivals. All of Washington D.C. promoter, I.M.P. 's, concerts.  Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage in New York City. A collective of 11 clubs in NashvilleDead & Company’s upcoming tour - only vaccines will be accepted for GA ticketholders, however.  Eagles’ November 5th concert at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena. Upcoming tours of Jason Isbell, Bleachers, Maroon 5, and The Killers, and Phish.

Cancellations on The RiseWith the rise of the Delta variant, more artists are cancelling or postponing their upcoming tours due to safety concerns. 

  Florida’s Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam, scheduled for early September, has been moved to next year. Michael Bublé rescheduled several of his dates to later this year. Counting Crows cancelled their Boston show day-of due to someone in their crew testing positive. They also dropped their upcoming show in Ohio.   Having just performed at Lollapalooza, the rest of Limp Bizkit’s August tour dates have been dropped. Lynyrd Skynyrd’s guitarist has tested positive causing four of their upcoming shows to be cancelled.  After recovering from the virus, Reba McEntire is considering her plans to tour soon. Stevie Nicks has dropped all five of her scheduled 2021 performances including BottleRock and Austin City Limits, the latter of which has added Duran Duran and Tyler, the Creator.
