Big lineup announcements from SXSW and Coachella; the Weeknd postpones X3; Plus, the first multi-day music festival took place in the metaverse (the what??) last week.

Look Who is Back on TourAfter releasing their first single in almost a decade, Swedish House Mafia will be selling tickets on Friday to their newly announced tour kicking off in July 2022. They also released a teaser on Instagram for their Coachella 2022 appearance. Seems like it’s time to make way for their comeback.

Why Some Events HappenWe all may be curious why some events can happen while others are getting canceled. Well, the answer may not be so straightforward. Some of the cancellations have been Covid-related, while others are due to a lack of staff, supply shortages, and beyond. 

(More) New Live Nation Venue NewsDallas’ Echo Lounge & Music Hall, a partnership with LN, Mark Cuban, and the Dallas Mavericks, opens November 1st. 30-year-old Music Farm in Charleston, SC is getting new leadership, with Live Nation and NS2 working on bookings, and FPC Live managing and operating the 650-person capacity club. And in France, LN is partnering with the Olympique Lyonnais Groupe to create a new arena in Lyon; it is expected to seat 16,000 and open at the end of 2023. 

Covid Protocol, No PerformaceCountry artist Travis Tritt has boldly announced that he will be canceling any of his concerts that take place in venues mandating that its audience wear masks, present proof of vaccination, or have a negative Covid test.

Weeknd RefundsOriginally set to launch in June 2019, the Weeknd has postponed his world tour for the third time. The rebranded “After Hours Til Dawn” tour is now set to take place in the summer of 2022. 

100,000 Viewer Livestream Last month’s Firefly Music Festival, featuring Billie Eilish and other huge industry names, was live-streamed through Mandolin. They reported that over 100,000 viewers watched the stream, with fans from 134 countries.

DWP RecapDanny Wimmer Presents (DWP) has attracted the largest crowd yet for their Louder Than Life event in Kentucky, drawing 160,000 fans over a four-day weekend. After a very successful festival season, Wimmer reports, “Nobody’s taking anything for granted, everyone is giving 110%.” Hype! 

Slow to ReopenMeanwhile, this past Friday in Ireland, entertainment venues experienced a further gradual reopening. While sporting events are now able to host at full capacity, indoor live entertainment will still hold seating restrictions and require vaccination proof - somewhat of a blow to the live entertainment industry…

Festivals In India are Back and Better Diwali, Durga Puja, and Dussehra: these are all names of major Hindu festivals that are being celebrated this season in India. After a long and treacherous path to the country’s reopening, religious festivals are back and better than ever.  

 HB Sports & Entertainment is seeking a Manager of Event Operations for the Prudential Center and The New Jersey Devils.  For Twitter lovers out there, the company’s Content Partnerships team is looking for a Partner Manager to help develop and manage relationships with entertainment content partners, among other roles.  Brooklyn-based event series & music collective The Funky Seshwa is hiring a New York-based intern to assist with event logistics, strategic promotion, production assistance, and more. APG Los Angeles is searching for an A&R Intern. The hottest new live venue is redefining both “live” and “venue”. Big companies like Facebook, Roblox, and Epic Games are hyper-focused on building for the metaverse, and now festivals are jumping on the bandwagon. But what exactly is it? Or where is it? Or both??The metaverse is an immersive digital space where people's interactions are multi-dimensional as they move through the endless interconnected 3D virtual spaces. It’s “the internet brought to life.” Last week, the metaverse became a festival venue with Decentraland hosting the world’s first multi-day festival in the metaverse, with headliners like Deadmau5, Paris Hilton, and more at the Metaverse Festival. As Zuck and others continue to drive the development of the metaverse, expect other festivals and promoters to join.

Auction: Handwritten Song LyricsThe Music Health Alliance will be holding an online auction beginning November 1st! However, this is no ordinary auction. Rather, this action will be offering a collection of handwritten song lyrics coming from the original artist themselves, many of the songs being Grammy Award winners. Highlights include lyrics from Cyndi Lauper, Carrie Underwood, and songwriter Chris Tompkin, George Thorogood, and more. The auction will raise funds for Music Health Alliance’s Covid-19 Relief plan, which was created to support the needs of music industry professionals and their families throughout the pandemic.
