EDC Music Festival is heading to Mexico after another successful show in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Adele has announced her first tour dates and Live Nation is out here using NFT Ticket Stubs for the first time ever. SXSW is in muddy waters after a lawsuit regarding refunds with fans, and Young Thug (among others) mysteriously canceled for Outside Lands. 

Credit: digitalmusicnews.comCoachella Continues: Signed for 29 YearsAEG Presents' Goldenvoice has signed for the operating rights to the Empire Polo Club - which is home to significant festival brands Coachella and Stagecoach. Further, Coachella has agreed to continue hosting the festival in Indio, CA, for at least the next 29 years.  

NIVA Shoutout NIVA, the National Independent Venue Association, was honored at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony this past weekend. Committed to serving small businesses, NIVA represents over 2,000 independent concert venues.

Newly Announced Partnership Last week, ASM Global and Loud and Live announced a partnership to help each other promote and execute various shows strategically. Their first joint project will take place on December 5th. 

LiveBuzz Now with See TicketsLiveBuzz, a UK expo registration, and lead retrieval platform, has been acquired by See Tickets, which French global media company Vivendi owns. See Tickets has also announced its partnership with Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS), a Dutch conference and festival.  

Billion Dollar LossAustralia's live entertainment sector has lost $1.04 billion since the pandemic hit. There have been efforts from the Live Music Support Package to create a $3 million funding boost, though that may have its difficulties given Australia's Covid roadmap. 

SXSW LawsuitSXSW has agreed to settle a lawsuit over their no-refund policy for the canceled 2020 festival. They will refund 40% to those who did not defer their credentials to another year and $30 to those who wait. 

Drug Check Funding for NZThe New Zealand government funds drug checks at their live music events to keep festival-goers safe. NZ's Health Minister explains, "there is clear evidence that having drug-checking services at festivals changes behavior and reduces harm."

Ticket Stubs Collectibles Live Nation will begin selling Live Stubs, digitally collectible NFTs of ticket stubs, for Swedish House Mafia's Paradise Again Tour. Fans will be able to view, share, gift, trade, and resell their live stubs - which are not actual tickets and not valid for entry -  on Livenation.com. 

Fans Unite Over Stolen Band GearPunk rock group Mannequin Pussy had almost $50k worth of gear stolen on tour. After the band set a fundraising goal of $30k, fans kindly went above and beyond, raising $43k in just twenty-four hours.

  • Nebula, created by Richie Romero and business partner Yang Gao, opened last weekend. Manhattan's newest club, which is just off of Times Square, is 11,000 square feet and holds 700 patrons. 

  • The most awarded venue in the USA, the Mohegan Sun Arena, just celebrated its 25th anniversary. Aside from having amazing performers, the tech crew never fails to impress; as President MGE of Sports & Entertainment Worldwide Tom Cantone said, “It’s a back of the house headline that is just as important as the headliners on stage.”

  • Dallas’ Echo Lounge & Music Hall opened November 1st with performances by Jeremy Zucker, Madison Beer, and more. The 1,000-capacity Club is run by Live Nation. 

  • After $96.7 million and three years of restoration, Koko, one of London’s historic live entertainment venues, plans to reopen in the Spring of 2022. 

  • AEG Presents has begun working on a new arena in Goyang City, South Korea. The venue is set to open in 2024, in partnership with CJ Group. 

Tour and Festival Updates

  • On October 29th, the Fugees announced that they will be postponing their 25th Anniversary Reunion Tour, originally scheduled to start November 2nd, to ensure that when they do perform, venues are at full capacity and they can reach the highest number of fans possible. Fortunately, they will now be adding more dates when they do hit the road. 

  • With allegations coming out against promoter SSD, multiple acts such as Sports Team, Lang, and more have pulled out of Hit The North Festival in Newcastle.

  • In better news, Adele has announced the first two dates for her upcoming tour. They will be July 1st and 2nd, 2022, both in London’s Hyde Park. Her album, 30, is set to release on November 19th. 

  • Speaking of tour announcements, Brandi Carlile announced her newest headlining tour will kick off November 6th at Carnegie Hall, and she will be joined by a rotating cast of opening acts.

EDC Continental

  • After being canceled for 2021, Insomniac and OCESA are working on the newest edition of their festival, EDC Mexico. The event is coming February 25-27, 2022, with a stacked lineup featuring Carl Cox, Afrojack, deadmau5, and more.

  • EDC Las Vegas, Insomniac’s flagship festival, celebrated a triumphant return October 22-24. With amazing moments such as a drone light show, a feature from Lil Nas X, and insane DJ sets, it is hard not to have a bit of FOMO.

This week's spotlight is on... Outside Lands 🔦

This year’s set for Young Thug, Outside Lands’ headliner, was abruptly canceled this past Saturday. It was two hours before his scheduled performance. An hour before his set, the rapper still had yet to post on social media regarding his absence. Young Thug was replaced by Aminé. Artist cancellations continued with Scarypoolparty respectfully bowing out of the show due to mental health concerns. Marc Rebillet also was last minute to drop out with the replacement Reggie Watts jumping in.
