Some more cancellations have ensued, and the Coachella dispute is now in the past. There’s also new research out on which artist has the best workout music - so if exercising is a New Year’s resolution for you, you’ll want to check it out.

As online events continue to gain popularity, Zoom will add new features allowing for higher-quality productions than that of the average Zoom call.

Regarding the ongoing Coachella lawsuit, a judge ruled that Live Nation could continue selling tickets for its NYE festival, rejecting Goldenvoice’s request to end sales via a restraining order. Originally marketed as “Coachella Day One 22,” the festival switched to “DayOne22,” no longer infringing on potential copyright.

After deciding to cancel their New Year’s performances, Phish opted for performance without the live audience in an experience called “Dinner and a Movie” - “dinner” because the band provided dinner recipes for their viewers.

Film Fest CancellationThe Palm Springs International Film Society announced the cancellation of their film festival, which was set for January 7-17. They will now partner with Entertainment Tonight to celebrate the honorees, with award winners announced on January 15.

Dior has reported the indefinite postponement of their brand Cactus Jack, created in collaboration with Travis Scott, “out of respect for everyone affected by the tragic events at Astroworld.”

After testing positive for Covid, LL Cool J pulled out from ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2022,” which marked its 50th anniversary this year. Artist Chloë also canceled for unspecified reasons. The special held new segments this year, with a New Orleans countdown hosted by Billy Porter, a Spanish-language component from Puerto Rico, and performances in LA. NY Mayor Bill de Blasio announced new requirements prior to the event, including proof of full vaccination, a photo ID, and masks. Times Square noted on their website that “viewing areas will be filled with fewer people to allow for social distancing,” with about 15,000 visitors instead of the usual 58,000. Further, entry to the viewing area was restricted until 3 pm, much later than previous years. The event’s in-person continuation can be seen as a good sign for the near future of the entertainment industry. While the night was a success, the live events industry has not had an easy season, specifically with numerous Broadway and New Year’s event cancellations. Here is a list detailing the various New Year’s events that were canceled, in addition to some that were still set to go on. In other New Year’s cancellation news, the psych-rock band The Flaming Lips postponed their NYE shows, now rescheduled for February 19 and 20 at the Caverns in Pelham, TN. The venue posted on their Instagram, “The Flaming Lips and The Caverns are heartbroken to deliver this news, and we know you’re no doubt sad to read it, but the health and safety of guests, staff, crew, and everyone on stage are of utmost importance.”

Pour Moi recently conducted a study to determine which artist produces the best running music and found that the winner is Beyoncé (is anyone surprised?). Read the rest of the list here.
