Drones + Holy WaterIn India, thousands of pilgrims gathered for Gangasagar Mela by the river Ganges. In an attempt to thwart the spread of Covid during the traditional dip in the river, drones sprayed holy water from the river at the crowds, but it was mostly futile as, “most pilgrims are bent on defying the rules.”

New Festival AlertFlesh festival will be the UK’s first LGBTQ+ electronic music and camping festival. Set for May 28-29 at Springfield Farm in St. Albans, the event hopes to address long-term issues in festival programming with a lineup of majority women, trans, and non-binary artists.

Greener In Colorado In Colorado, promoters AEG Rocky Mountain Presents have turned away from single-use plastic cups. From now on, all AEG Colorado venues will commit to washing and reusing their cups, produced by r.Cup, for up to 500 uses. Restrictions Lifted

Northern Ireland and France have eased their Covid restrictions, and both are moving from negative test proof to vaccination proof for admittance to live events. In other changes, Germany has created a policy to make it easier for companies to reduce employee work hours without having to lay them off.

Zero-Covid PolicyFor the Beijing Winter Olympics, strict measures will be taken to ensure a “zero-Covid policy,” beginning with discouraging any chanting - maybe try clapping instead? Overseas spectators will not be joining, and athletes must be fully vaccinated (as opposed to the Tokyo Games where that was not mandated).

Time For A New Venue The 64th Grammy Awards have been rescheduled for the second year in a row, and will now take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 3rd, instead of the original January 31st date in Los Angeles.

Covid Passes LiftedLast week, the UK Government confirmed that ‘Plan-B’ restrictions will be relaxed in England beginning January 27, meaning Covid passes and masks will no longer be required for live entertainment venues. Many event organizers are welcoming this change following an “extremely difficult two years.”

Ariana Grande Fans Beware

Scam artists are posing as Ariana Grande’s agents through emails that promise a forthcoming album and a corresponding tour, along with hotel deal offers. These fraudulent messages are being sent to unknowing promoters - and unfortunately, this is not the first time it has been done.

Looking to volunteer at SXSW? The festival is set for March 11-20 and SXSW EDU will take place immediately before from March 7-10. Volunteers must be fully vaccinated and will be expected to have roles helping over 20 different crews.  AEG’s Goldenvoice is hiring a Festival Administrative Assistant to facilitate communication between departments and optimize functionality within the company. Superfly is hiring a Production Accountant to work in New York City to partner with production and corporate finance teams, manage project budgets, and more.

The new trailer for the February 13th Super Bowl LVI halftime show features Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Dr. Dre, created by world-class director F. Gary Gray. The Jay-Z produced, the 12-minute performance is looking to be pretty hype! On a panel of Super Bowl LVI stakeholders, there was refreshing optimism and strategy for the successful follow-through for the big game. As of now, this Super Bowl’s home at the SoFi stadium in Inglewood, CA will not impose capacity restrictions. Necessary protocols include vaccine proof or a negative Covid test, along with a photo ID and mask at all times. Organizers explained, “With any event under any circumstance, we’re always going to be prepared for the worst but at the same time, we have every reason to feel optimistic about the future.”And of course, we’d be remiss not to mention NFTs in the newsletter - this time in the NFL: fans received commemorative tickets in the form of NFTs upon attending the recent Wild Card games. Further, for the first-ever Monday night playoff game with the LA Rams vs. Arizona Cardinals, fans were also eligible for the NFT ticket. Following a successful regular-season launch where fans received complimentary NFTs, this post-season launch is looking to be a success, with 100 NFT tickets per team selling out within 24 hours.
