The event, still scheduled for February 24-27, asked for refund requests by yesterday, February 7 to allow organizers to plan accordingly with performers and the resort. 

Who has Majority Stake in Life is Beautiful?In an attempt to keep the publication relevant to music fans, Rolling Stone is hoping to create an events business to complement their already existing projects. To get the ball rolling, they recently acquired a majority stake in the Las Vegas music festival Life is Beautiful.

Return to VegasLady Gaga is returning to Las Vegas for a new residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM, presented in partnership by MGM Resorts International and Live Nation. She will be exploring the Great American Songbook, as well as more jazzy classics, for nine dates beginning April 14th.

Super Bowl Seats Skyrocket 

Tickets for this year’s Super Bowl are averaging $9,648 according to SeatGeek, topping last year’s $8,609 average and $7,172 in 2020. The most expensive ticket was $70,891 and the least was about $5,000 (without fees!). But with the Big Game taking place in state-of-the-art SoFi Stadium and featuring the home team, it’s not surprising.

A Virtual FestivalChinese company, Modern Sky Entertainment, is set to launch a virtual edition of their Strawberry Music Festival, which typically takes place every spring across cities in China. This year’s edition will feature digital versions of real-life artists, along with artists who exist completely virtually from artist label No Problem.

In more virtual performer news, Dubai is launching a series of

featuring well-known singers and musicians, taking place twice a week in Al Habtoor City Theatre. 

Hiatus Announcement Organizers of Minneapolis music festival the Basilica Block Party have announced a hiatus on 2022’s event “to reimagine the event for future years.” After a smaller attendance in September 2021 given various Covid-related issues, they are reconsidering new strategies for the event’s future.

A Global Experience 

After being canceled in both 2020 and 2021 due to Covid, Rock In Rio is returning with a new

package, giving fans access to both their Brazilian and Portuguese editions, which are happening during the same year for the first time. The Lisbon festival will take place June 18-19 and 25-26, while Rio will be September 2-4 and 8-11. 

Mentorship Program Launch

Live Nation Australia is partnering with youth music organization The Push and Australian rock legends Crowded House to create a

aimed at young people with interests in the live entertainment industry. With a focus on developing opportunities for women and gender non-binary people, the program will accept two applicants at its launch. 

Italian entertainment groups have joined forces to launch the campaign #Nessunconcerto (no concert) in response to the country’s ongoing shutdown of the live music industry after Italy’s state of emergency was recently

to the end of March. This initiative comes exactly one year after their previous campaign, L’ultimo Concerto? (The Last Concert?).  

 Live Nation’s Insomniac is hiring an Okeechobee Music Festival 2022 Seasonal Production Assistant in Florida to assist the Project Manager in developing and executing festival productions.  Insomniac is also looking for a Production Project Manager in Calabasas, CA, to manage production, operations, and beyond.  Eventbrite Boost is seeking a Customer Success Specialist (remote, US) to work full-time on ensuring customer satisfaction and education.

Festival Announcements + Lineup DropsHinterland is returning for its 2022 edition in St. Charles, Iowa from August 4-7. The music and camping festival will be at Avenue of the Saints Amphitheater, featuring headliners Phoebe Bridgers, Glass Animals, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and Billy Strings.Music and Tattoo Festival Inkcarceration has announced its 2022 lineup, hosting headliners Korn, Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin, and Evanescence. The heavy metal-meets-tattoo festival will return to the Ohio State Reformatory July 15-17, working with producer Danny Wimmer Presents, among others. Besides experiencing music, attendees will be able to book onsite tattoo appointments from over 30 artists and shops, with nightly tattoo competitions.Broccoli City, a Black-owned organization that seeks social change at the intersection of music and culture, is bringing  Broccoli City Festival back to Washington, DC from May 7-8, after a 2-year hiatus. The festival will take place during Broccoli City’s BLK Weekend, which will include a convention, 5k race, volunteer opportunities, and more. 

New Zealand’s Latest

New Zealands’ Electric Avenue Music Festival, which was set for February 26, has been canceled due to the recent increase in Covid restrictions. With 30,000 people planning to attend, the festival’s cancellation is a significant economic loss. Festival director Callam Mitchell says this is the third festival he’s had to cancel in the past week, explaining, "It's heartbreaking to lose 12 months of work, not just for our team but for our suppliers, casual event staff, and of course the artists too.” Meanwhile, Soundsplash music festival, which was held January 21-23 in New Zealand, may have been a “superspreader” event according to experts after five attendees tested positive post-festival.

This summer, Watershed Music and Camping Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary. From July 29-31, the three-day, two-stage camping festival will feature headliners Kane Brown, Miranda Lambert, and Morgan Wallen. The festival will take place at Washington’s Gorge Amphitheatre, with passes going on sale this Friday, February 11.
