It’s an exciting time for live events with the first weekend of Coachella already underway and many more festivals to come - many of which are returning for the first time in a long time.

Credit: TinderIs it a Match?Tinder has launched a new feature on the app called Festival Mode, which will help users connect in advance of a concert or larger music festival. The concept was designed in partnership with Live Nation, AEG Presents, and Superstruct Entertainment. 

The Future is GreenIn Munich, Germany, the first climate-neutral arena is in the works. Bavaria-based developer SWMunich has plans to build the 20,000-capacity MUCcc Arena, which will act as a concert and convention center. It will be built next to LabCampus, the tech and innovation center at the Munich Airport. 

Coldplay is implementing a 12-point strategy to reduce their carbon impact while on tour. The “Music of the Spheres” Tour will be powered in part by a kinetically-powered dance floor. Singer Chris Martin has acknowledged the backlash the band may receive from certain actions such as flying on a private aircraft, to which he responded, “I don’t mind any reaction at all.”

TWICE has become the first female K-Pop group to headline a stadium show in the US. They sold out two shows at LA’s Banc of California Stadium for their 4th World Tour, which opened in Seoul this past December. They have sold out stadiums and arenas in cities across the US, from LA to NY, Atlanta and more. 

Following two investments of $200+ million dollars, Sony Group Corporation is acquiring even more stake in Epic Games. Sony recently agreed to spend $1 billion to acquire additional stake, adding up to about 5.4% of Epic’s stocktotal in Sony’s possession. Investment group KIRKBI has also acquired about 3.2% stake in Epic Games. 

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is the latest to invest in hologram startup Proto Inc., formerly known as PORTL. The company recently raised $12 million in a Series A round led by TRUE Capital Management. Combs used the startup to “beam” from Miami to Los Angeles to sing Happy Birthday to his son. 

The 2022 Masters at Augusta National have come to a close, with almost zero onsite ads and sponsors. There was no onsite sponsorship signage, however sponsors did get lots of screen time on TV and on the app. The change was likely inspired by the Olympics, where no corporate signage is permitted inside the games.   

Sold Out in BrazilAccording to festival organizers, Rock in Rio’s return to Brazil has completely sold out. Hosting 100,000 fans per day from September 2-4 and 8-11, the festival saw about 1 million people register for the chance to buy tickets. 

Skyler Stonestreet, a songwriter who’s written for Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, and more, has just sold her catalog to Influence Media Partners. The seven-figure deal includes about 80 songs that date back to 2013. 

Thanks to extensive lobbying from LIVE and other tour group organizations, concert hauliers will be granted dual registration between the UK and Europe. This will allow certain haulage companies to carry their touring equipment freely between the two regions post-Brexit. While this is a good enough solution for now, more has to be done to alleviate this struggle for good. 

Live Nation is hiring part-time VIP Staff for its Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta to sell products and services in advance of shows, and maintain monthly sales goals. 

ENT Legends Concerts is seeking a Booking Coordinator in California (Hybrid) to work in and support the Talent Buying department.

 Insomniac Events is looking for an on-site EDCLV 2022 Seasonal Site Experience Production Coordinator in Las Vegas to ensure successful events by coordinating with technical teams, production departments and beyond.

Festival Reveals 

Ember Shores is returning, hosted by Disco Donnie Presents, Feyline, and ILLENIUM. The multi-stage event will be held at all-inclusive resorts in Cancún, Mexico, from December 2-4. 

Melissa Etheridge, along with rock cruise legends Sixthman, has revealed the finalized lineup for the six-night, all-inclusive beach vacation Etheridge Island. Taking place over Labor Day Weekend in Playa Mujeres, Mexico, the experience will feature three live sets from Etheridge, along with other performances throughout the week. Attendees will be immersed with wellness, meditation, delicious food, and, of course, concerts. 

Whiskey Myers has announced the return of their personal Firewater Music Festival for its second year, from September 29-October 1. In addition to Whiskey Myers, the lineup includes Blackberry Smoke, Old 97’s, Read Southall Band, and many more. The festival will take place just south of Kansas City, with outdoor activities such as canoeing and zip-lining included. 

New Orleans Jazz Fest, which is scheduled for April 29-May 8, recently revealed the addition of the Red Hot Chili Peppers as the replacement for Foo Fighters during the first weekend of the 2022 event. Other acts include Lionel Richie and Death Cab for Cutie, who are set to close out the festival's first day. Throughout these days, the festival will also host The Who, Luke Combs, The Black Crowes, and Stevie Nicks - just to name a few! 

Ontario’s Festival of Small Halls will be continuing across Eastern Ontario throughout the month of May, as per the festival’s organizers. The festival features Canadian artists who perform in small community venues around the province. 

The lineup for the sixth annual Ohana Festival has been revealed, featuring headliners Eddie Vedder (founder of the festival), Stevie Nicks, and P!nk. The event, set for September 30-October 2, will take place at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, CA. The festival will offer craft beers, wines, and spirits, and will continue to provide support for social and environmental causes for 2022.

Just one day before the Goldenvoice-promoted festival, Arcade Fire surprised fans by unexpectedly appearing on the Coachella lineup schedule for Friday, April 15. 

Ever since Kanye West pulled out of the festival on April 4, ticket prices on secondary markets have fallen significantly. On TickPick.com, there was a 56% decrease in ticket prices, with original GA tickets selling for upwards of $685, now at $390. The same trends have taken place across StubHub and SeatGeek as well. 

YouTube Shopping is offering online viewers the chance to purchase exclusive Coachella merchandise straight from the livestream watchpage. What’s more, six creators are capturing the festival experience through their respective YouTube channels via the YouTube Shorts Compound. Coachella will also offer a pair of lifetime passes in the form of an NFT as part of the YouTube Coachella Sweepstakes.

 After a long wait, the rock band contest show No Cover has an official trailer and release date. The show, starring Alice Cooper, Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale, and Bush’s Gavin Rossdale, will premiere on April 20 and feature an amazing grand prize for the winning band.
